Though you're far away, I am here to stay...

For the last time, Michael Jackson has made it into the news, big time. The King of Pop is gone. The networks were quick to come up with documentaries about the King. Shortly, grief and tribute flooded the streets. For sure, sales of Michael Jackson memorabilia will be a hit at the box office.

I wish the King of Pop were still alive to witness firsthand the flow of love and support. It would have been overwhelming to be given accolade when it meant the most, not during one's funeral. Sadly, his last years were marred with hurt, isolation, and financial troubles.

I rarely go to funerals. I choose not to conform to tradition. I believe that it is immaterial to show concern at an inappropriate time. I have always argued with my mom and wife about such customary practice. While it is good for show, the dead will never know.

I am a big fan of Michael Jackson, but I am a bigger advocate of not waiting until the final curtain to express one's love. By then, it would be too late.

Nice blog, came over from blog catalog. I am also a big fan of Michael Jackson, listened to a lot of his tunes in the 80's and listen to the Jackson 5.

One thing is for certain the last years have been marred a bit with the court and financial woes for him but the musical genius behind the man will continue on.

Agreed. I just recently had this conversation with a friend; I mean... within the frame of one week (actually more like four days) four well known people died. And what shocked me was that in all the time prior to their deaths, not a kind word was said. However, afterwards you couldn't stop the outpour of warmth, love, and overall emotion. It's kind of amazing, really, and rather sad in and of itself.

hi Floyd,

i think MJ's death has made him a much, much bigger star. regardless of his inadequacies (which i am not defending), his music will remain in our hearts.

cheers!

Hi

I don't think funerals are for the dead, but for those still living.

One, usually there is a message given, and this is as good as time as any to hear and give deep thought about what happens after we die.

Two, it's a time to give support and help to the family who is mourning.

Three, it's a time of saying goodbye and then carrying on, as again, those that are still alive need this.
